Finding the real problem

Groups are good at coming up with options. Picking one is the hard part, because nobody wants to be the one who chose the bad restaurant.

So Agreed gives everyone the same options and keeps the ones they all said yes to. Nobody chose it alone, so nobody gets the blame.

We started with one audience: couples deciding what to do tonight. Everything else could wait.

  • Problem statement
  • First audience: couples
  • Success: 2 people finishing a decision together

Brand

How it looks and sounds

The name is the outcome: Agreed. The store line, decide together, covers how it gets there.

The brand is built against the feed. No endless scroll and no streaks for the sake of streaks. Find the thing, agree on it, then put the phone down and go and do it.

It has a character too, a capybara with poses for agreed, disagreed and idle, so the moment of agreement has someone to celebrate it. Orange marks everything you can tap. Green is kept for yes.

Design

Shaping the experience

Everyone swipes on their own phone. Nobody sees anyone else's answers, so nobody gets talked into anything.

When the yeses overlap, the app shows the match. The rest of the product leads up to that screen, so it got the most design time.

Every screen was designed for a phone held in one hand, in a noisy room.

  • Swipe flow
  • Match reveal
  • Mobile-first screens

Build & launch

Making it live and keeping it working

One codebase runs the web app and the apps on the App Store and Google Play.

Subscriptions are built in, and new features go live without breaking the ones people already use.

No handoff. The person who designed it built it, so nothing got lost between the screens and the code.
